Meanwhile, Alstom and its Spanish partner, Inabensa, have signed a $23.8 million contract with the government of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia in Spain for the electrification of Granada’s tramway system.

Alstom’s share of the project represents $14.2 million and covers installation of 21.7 miles of catenary and seven traction substations. The electrification work should be completed by July 2011.

The Grenada tramway will cover 9.8 miles, serving 26 stations and transporting approximately 140,000 passengers. The tramway is expected to transport 12 million passengers during its first year of operation.
