Bombardier Transportation’s production site in Plattsburgh, N.Y., celebrated the completion of the 1,000th electric multiple unit (EMU) commuter railcar for a contract with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) two commuter railroads. Bombardier Transportation, North America President William Spurr joined other Bombardier executives, employees and invited guests at the site to mark the milestone. The company is producing 1,172 M-7 railcars for the MTA Long Island Rail Road and the MTA Metro-North Railroad. Stainless steel carbodies for the M-7 cars are constructed at Bombardier’s manufacturing site in La Pocatière, Quebec, with final assembly and testing taking place at facilities in Plattsburgh. This contract for over 1,000 vehicles is among the largest contracts ever awarded in the North American market. This is the second time Plattsburgh has hit the 1,000-car threshold, the first coming in 2003 with a 1,030-subway car contract for MTA New York City Transit.
