A local private transit company will run the trolley route. After holding a “Name the Trolley” contest, the city council voted to keep its temporary holiday name, “The Jolly Trolley” as the trolley’s official title.
The Jolly Trolley seats 29 passengers, has room for two ADA handicap positions and can carry an additional 10 standing passengers. The trolley is fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG), and also features an oak interior, oak slat seats, cow catcher, air conditioning, heating and a bell with a passenger pull string. The trolley is free of charge to ride throughout the city. It operates on a five-mile fixed route loop that runs every 30 minutes between the city’s downtown area, entertainment plaza and shopping centers.
The addition of a trolley to the existing transit fleet was part of an expansion to the City’s transportation system in support of the Dinuba downtown revitalization. The purchase of the trolley was made possible through grant funding from the California Department of Transportation transit program.
