Colo.'s Mountain Metropolitan looking to add electric buses through VW funds
The Colorado Electric Vehicle Plan distributes $68.7 million Colorado will be receiving from German carmaker Volkswagen as part of a settlement for violating emissions laws.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Mountain Metropolitan Transit is hoping to cash in on the blueprint for increasing the state's electric vehicle network that Gov. John Hickenlooper unveiled last week, The Gazette reports.
The Colorado Electric Vehicle Plan distributes $68.7 million Colorado will be receiving from German carmaker Volkswagen as part of a settlement for violating emissions laws. Out of the $68.7 million, Colorado plans to spend $10.4 million on charging stations, while another $36 million will go to rural and urban communities in the form of grants to replace transit buses, medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks, and school and shuttle buses with alternate-fuel or electric buses.
