Skylink, the world's largest airport people mover, began service last week at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The people mover transports passengers in both directions at speeds up to 35 mph on its elevated guideways. Skylink will initially be able to shuttle 5,000 passengers per hour per direction. That number will increase to 8,000 once the system is expanded. Each Skylink train car, featuring a rubber-tired design, accommodates up to 69 passengers and their carry-on luggage. Other features include an advanced train control system that automatically guides the movement of the train cars along the guideway. DFW International Airport, the world's third busiest, offers nearly 1,800 flights per day and serves 57 million passengers a year.
