More than 200 transit officials and state and local leaders gathered for the unveiling of Foothill Transit's newest operations and maintenance facility located in California's San Gabriel Valley. The new 12-acre facility, a Spanish mission-style compound, features a 30,000-square-foot maintenance building, a state-of-the-art bus wash facility and fuel island, and an administration building complete with training offices and bus simulators. About 300 coach operators, mechanics, supervisors, dispatchers and transit managers and roughly half of Foothill's 299-bus fleet will occupy the new facility. The new maintenance garage allows for maintenance of and inspections for up to 11 buses at a time. The garage includes an exhaust fan tube in every bay, six sets of inground hoists, two sets of mobile hoists and a wash rack hoist that raises buses for undercarriage steam cleaning. The fully ventilated garage is also equipped with a natural gas detection system.
