INIT announced the launch of its regional, account-based, virtual transit fare card, for use by riders in the Portland-Vancouver Metro Area.
Via Google Pay, TriMet, C-TRAN, and Portland Streetcar passengers can pay their transit fare with a virtual Hop card. The card is the result of a collaboration between INIT, TriMet, and moovel and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
The Hop system is managed by MOBILEvario, INIT's back-office management tool. When a rider taps their Android device with the virtual card to any of the 1,200 INIT fare validators, MOBILEvario calculates the fare, validates the transaction against the back office account, and displays the fare validation result to the rider in real-time.
