Intertek, a provider of testing, inspection and certification, won a contract from the U.S. Department of Transportation's (U.S. DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), for the Enforcement Test Program for Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, covering automotive headlamps, tail lamps, brake lights, reflective devices and associated equipment. The contract has one base year and four option years.
To ensure the safety of automotive lighting products, FMVSS 108 contains stringent testing requirements for photometric (light intensity), mechanical (vibration) and environmental (corrosion, moisture and dust).
The purpose of this contract is to conduct testing against the government standard of randomly selected automotive lighting products sold in the marketplace. The test reports will be submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for determination of compliance with FMVSS No. 108.
Intertek is accredited by the A2LA (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation), AMECA (Automotive Manufacturer Equipment Compliance Agency) and VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency) to test a wide variety of motor vehicle lighting, including headlamps, tail lamps, fog lamps, turn signals, warning signals and more. In addition to testing to the FMVSS 108 standard, Intertek is a single-source provider for additional performance testing needs, including EMC (AEMCLAP Accredited, Ford and GM Approved) vibration, moisture, dust and HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing).
