Aligning with its mission to increase equitable and enhanced mobility options, Lyft has added local public transit information in-app in Miami-Dade County — allowing riders to see upcoming departures for Miami-Dade Transit, Tri-Rail, shared rides, scooters, and car rentals.

With the new Transit feature in the Lyft app, riders can easily see approaching Metrorail, Metrobus, Metromover, and Tri-Rail vehicles on the map or they can enter a destination to see how to get there using Miami-Dade Transit. For nearby destinations, Lyft also shows walking directions alongside transit and rideshare options. Lyft’s Transit feature is now available in 15 cities across North America, including New York, Chicago, and Toronto.

According to Lyft’s 2020 Economic Impact Report, 37% of Miami riders do not own or lease a personal vehicle, and 54% of Lyft riders have already used ridesharing to connect with mass transit options, showing an appetite among local riders to have this information more easily accessible in the app.

“One of our main goals is to provide viable transportation options for our County residents and visitors so they can make decisions on how they can get from point A to point B even during these trying times,” said Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) director Alice N. Bravo, P.E. “We are enthusiastic to have expanded our partnership with Lyft and utilize their rideshare app to provide seamless connections and more mobility choices for Miami-Dade Transit riders.”

Miami-Dade Transit and Lyft also recently launched Go Nightly, an alternative transportation solution for late night trips on nine Metrobus routes that are suspended due to COVID-19. Essential workers that relied on these routes can now take subsidized Lyft rideshare between midnight and 5 am nightly along the suspended Metrobus overnight routes.

In addition, Lyft has began piloting a new Call A Lyft Ride service in Miami, in which residents can call 631-201-LYFT using a cell phone, book a ride with a Lyft agent, and a driver will arrive in minutes. Throughout the process, Lyft will text riders important information about the ride and include a link to track it once it’s booked. A final price is provided upfront and paid by debit or credit card over the phone.
