Authorities looking for man who spilled mercury on subway
LOS ANGELES — A man caught on videotape spilling a small amount of mercury onto a platform of a Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority subway station is wanted for questioning by area police, the FBI and other members of a multi-agency terrorism task force. Authorities do not believe that the man’s actions were terrorism-related, but want to know why he did it and where he got the mercury from. For the full story, click here.
Greyhound contract negotiations stall over Spanish-speaking drivers
DALLAS — Contract negotiations between Greyhound Inc. and its employees have stalled because of the company’s plan to create bus routes staffed by Spanish-speaking drivers, according to union officials representing the employees. The current contract expires Jan. 31. For the full story, click here.
‘Driverless’ bus could be on the way in Scotland
EDINBURGH, Scotland — A model of a driverless bus, which passengers can hail with their cell phones to pick them up from a specified location, was unveiled at a science museum in Scotland. The electric drive and bio-fuel hybrid will use magnets embedded in the road as markers to navigate the streets and will be able to carry between 12 and 24 people. A prototype is due next year.
