New Flyer honored for ‘green’ practices
The company operates a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) reduction program, which is the backbone of its pollution prevention activities, and trains employees in product usage and waste reduction.
New Flyer Industries Canada ULC, the Canadian operating subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc. (New Flyer), has been named as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2009 (formerly known as the Most Earth-Friendly Employers) for the second consecutive year by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.
Employers were evaluated based on earth-friendly initiatives that involve employee participation, the degree to which environmental values have been integrated into the corporate culture, and how well these initiatives are attracting both employees and customers to their organizations.
The company operates a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) reduction program, which is the backbone of its pollution prevention activities, and employee education is a critical component to the success of this program. Employees are also trained on product usage and waste reduction, which has eliminated the use of thousands of liters of paint and the associated waste stream.
New Flyer has been certified to ISO 14001 environmental management standards since 2005. In 2005, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) awarded New Flyer the 2005 CCME Pollution Prevention Award. In 2004, CALSTART, North America’s leading advanced transportation organization, awarded New Flyer the Blue Sky Award, which is given for outstanding marketplace contributions to advanced, sustainable transportation.
