To improve passenger access to public transportation in New Jersey, 20 communities will receive free 20-passenger mini-buses. The 22 buses, paid for by New Jersey Transit's Community Shuttle Program, will be used to operate commuter shuttles to train stations and bus corridors during peak hours. The recipients include: Burlington, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Monmouth, Union, Midddlesex, Somerset and Ocean. The buses are scheduled to be delivered by spring 2002. They cost about $94,000 each and include wheelchair lifts and securements, air conditioning, reading lamps and overhead package racks. Three million dollars was granted to the program under TEA 21. This is the second year of the program.
