SEARCHAgency prepares its workers for increased scrutiny during Republic National Convention in New York this month.
New Jersey Transit Corp. (NJ Transit) sent a terrorism prevention video to its approximately 3,000 rail workers in preparation for the upcoming Republican National Convention in New York.
NJ Transit has train routes that run through New York's Penn Station, which lies directly below Madison Square Garden, where the convention will be held from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2.
The 15-minute video, titled "Warning Signs," was produced by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and discusses how to recognize suspicious passengers and packages.
According to Associated Press reports, rail employees have expressed concern over their role in security and their level of training.
However, NJ Transit officials have said that further preparations are being made to involve transit employees in security for the convention.
The FTA video stresses that transit employees are the first line of defense against terrorist attacks on public transportation systems.
The governor’s proposed auto insurance reforms could save the agency $48 million annually by limiting payouts in crashes where buses are not primarily at fault.
