Orbital TMS has been awarded a $9.2 million contract to provide its OrbCAD XP solution, a computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location system, to the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) in Tampa, Fla. OrbCAD XP will enable HART to view real-time GPS information to manage its fleet of more than 300 fixed-route, paratransit and support vehicles. It will also provide HART with passenger count collection and reporting, automated paratransit manifests, and video monitoring on board buses and at transit hubs. “The information that will be available to us now is invaluable," said Ray Miller, HART’s executive director. "We’ll be able to use the new data generated by the system to operate more efficiently, better stick to published schedules or make changes to schedules based on what’s really happening on the street,”
