Regional Day Pass Launches to Streamline Transit Across Chicago
This initiative is a collaborative effort between the CTA, Metra, Pace, and the RTA, aiming to create a more cost-effective and rider-friendly experience.

The Regional Day Pass is launching as a six-month pilot program. If successful and funding permits, the program could become permanent in 2026.

Riders across the Chicago metropolitan area now have a new option for traveling seamlessly using the newly launched Regional Day Pass, available exclusively through the latest version of the Ventra app.
The pass allows unlimited travel on all three major transit systems within 24 hours, marking a significant milestone in regional fare integration. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, Pace Suburban Bus, and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), aiming to create a more cost-effective and rider-friendly experience.
“This fare product will allow riders to seamlessly travel across all three transit systems, as much as they want within 24 hours, just in time for everyone to enjoy all that Chicagoland has to offer during the summer,” said CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen
Pass Details and Pricing
The Regional Day Pass is an add-on to a Metra Day Pass purchase and costs $2.50 more than a standard Metra-only day pass. It includes:
Unlimited rides on CTA buses and trains.
Unlimited rides on the Pace fixed-route service.
Weekday pricing for the combined pass is based on Metra travel zones:
$10 for single-zone Metra travel ($6 reduced fare).
$13.50 for two zones ($8 reduced fare).
$16 for three zones ($9 reduced fare).
All weekend passes are priced at $9.50.
“We are pleased to be able to partner with our sister agencies to offer this new pass to our customers and to be able to promote travel throughout the Chicago region, especially at the start of the summer season,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski.
Pilot Program and Future Outlook
The Regional Day Pass is launching as a six-month pilot program. If successful and funding permits, the program could become permanent in 2026.
“This pass is another step in our shared effort to make transit more seamless and rider-friendly across the region,” said RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden. “It shows what regional collaboration can achieve — but it’s just the beginning.”
The pass builds upon the Regional Connect Pass, which serves monthly Metra pass holders, and reflects broader efforts to improve fare integration in the region.
“Whether you’re commuting to work, heading to a summer event, or just exploring the region, this pass makes travel easier, more affordable, and more accessible,” added Pace Executive Director Melinda Metzger.
Regional leaders continue advocating for legislative reforms that would simplify fare policies and secure sustainable funding for long-term integration.
