HONOLULU — A new report finds the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) rail project is still short $134 million of its $8 billion construction budget, Honolulu Civil Beat reports.
Jacobs Engineering, the independent firm watching rail for the Federal Transit Administration, recommends that Honolulu rail officials add that amount to ensure the full 20-mile, 21-station system gets completed.
Jacobs’ report also found that the rail system won’t be ready for service until September 2026, which is close to a full-year later than HART’s current December 2025 estimate. For the full story, click here.
The region’s fixed-route system finished out the year with a total of 373.5 million rides. Adding 12.3 million rides over 2024 represents an increase that is equal to the annual transit ridership of Kansas City.
