Spare’s technology is now the operational backend behind Whistle!, a transportation network company (TNC) that currently services the west coast of British Columbia, including the communities of Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton, and Tofino.

The tech is providing Whistle! with both a driver and rider app to help the company and its passengers, many of whom are tourists, make the most out of its service. With Spare, Whistle! can manage its fleet, provide its customers with mix-and-match options using that same fleet, such as pre-bookings, long-distance trips and different pricing mechanisms, and ultimately explore additional short-term and long-term revenue opportunities.

Known for providing transit agencies with on-demand transit software and planning solutions, Spare is an ideal partner to ride-hailing companies because it gives them easy access to their own information, like GPS data, through click-of-a-button reports that are required under government regulations.

Spare’s service in British Columbia is one of a handful of new opportunities for the Canadian company on its home turf. This fall, it will also be launching on-demand microtransit and paratransit services in several Canadian markets across the country. It has also entered into agreements with two major urban centers to help them better plan their transit networks using Spare’s data-driven planning tool, Spare Realize.
