Officials for Sun Tran, Tucson, Ariz.’s public transportation system, and Teamsters Local 104 have agreed to a new three-year contract.
Union membership ratified the contract this week with a vote of 227 to 42. Union leaders had recommended a modified package that reallocated wages to the pension fund and adjusted the wage structure for part-time drivers.
Under the terms of the new contract, effective Aug. 1:
Top wages for drivers will rise from $16.63 to $18.53 an hour.
The top hourly rate for mechanics will increase from $20.04 to $21.94.
Should Sun Tran determine a need for part-time drivers, starting wages for those employees will increase from the current rate of $10.50 per hour to $11.47 over the next three years.
Sun Tran will increase its contributions to the Teamster pension fund by 25 cents an hour over three years, and continue to pay for 100% of the health and welfare premium for employees and their families.
