Customers using Vancouver TransLink’s express RapidBus services can now use free Wi-Fi, powered by Rogers, during their commutes.
Through TransLink’s Customer Experience Action Plan, TransLink and Rogers Communications are installing free public Wi-Fi, available to anyone with a mobile device, systemwide on transit vehicles and at transit hubs.
Where TransLink Customers Can Access Wi-Fi
Currently, customers can access free Wi-Fi:
On all five RapidBus routes and some other articulated buses.
Onboard most SeaBus vessels.
On some SkyTrain cars.
At both SeaBus terminals, Edmonds Station, New Westminster Station, Carvolth Exchange, and Langley Centre Exchange.
“Not only is RapidBus faster with fewer stops, now all customers can ride our premium bus service without having to spend money on data fees,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “These upgrades are yet another way we are elevating customer experiences by making it easier for customers to use their transit time for leisure, work, or to connect with family and friends.”
Work to install free public Wi-Fi on transit vehicles and hubs is continuing with the goal of making the entire system Wi-Fi accessible. In the short-term, TransLink and Rogers will prioritize vehicles that carry the most passengers like articulated buses and SkyTrain cars. These upgrades come at no expense to TransLink.
Evolving Partnerships
TransLink originally partnered with Shaw Communications for this project, and they have since merged with Rogers Communications. TransLink and Rogers remain committed to enhancing the experiences of Metro Vancouver transit riders through free complimentary Wi-Fi.
TransLink Wi-Fi facts:

In total, customers have used over 215,000 gigabytes of free data while onboard transit vehicles or at transit hubs.
Enough data has been used to stream over 71,000 hours of Netflix in HD.
