TriMet sees ridership spikes

Riders took 8.1 million trips on buses and commuter rail, up more than 2 percent compared to November 2010.

Riders took 8.1 million trips on Portland, Ore.-based TriMet’s buses, MAX and WES Commuter Rail in November, up more than 2 percent compared to November 2010. Bus ridership posted strong gains, and rush hour trips on buses, MAX and WES increased nearly 4 percent.

WES continued its double-digit increases. For 17 of the past 18 months, WES has reached double digit increases, with one month (Dec. 2010) coming close at 9.8 percent. MAX Green Line continued to make strong gains, with weekday trips up nearly 10 percent.

All figures below are compared with November 2010.

Bus, MAX & WES
•Weekly trips were up 2.4 percent to 1,919,500

•Weekday trips increased 2.6 percent to 319,900

•Weekend trips were up 1.6 percent to 320,000

•Rush-hour trips rose 3.8 percent to 103,000

Bus
•Weekly trips were up 3.6 percent to 1,145,400

•Weekday trips gained 3.5 percent to 193,400

•Weekend trips were up 4 percent to 178,400

•Rush-hour trips were up 2.9 percent to 63,100

MAX
•Weekly trips were flat with 766,100 trips

•Weekday trips were up 1 percent to 124,900

•Weekend trips were down 1.3 percent to 141,600

•Rush-hour trips climbed 4.6 percent to 38,300

MAX Green Line
•Weekday trips were up 9.7 percent to 23,800

•Weekend trips were up 5.2 percent to 24,200

WES
•Weekday/rush-hour trips jumped 18.5 percent to 1,600

•Weekly trips were up 18.5 percent to 8,000

Additionally, TransitTracker real-time arrival info is accessed more than two million times each month and available for all 6,800 bus stops and 85 MAX stations.
