[IMAGE]W-Mich-University-Bronco-Transit-2.jpg[/IMAGE]Bronco Transit, Western Michigan University's on-campus bus system, launched its mobile GPS application this month to allow individuals to track bus locations in real-time online via their computer or mobile devices such as cell phones, iPods or iPads.

"During the winter months, many students congregate inside buildings but are unable to tell if the bus is approaching their stop," said Lisa Knutson, director of marketing and creative development for WMU's Auxiliary Enterprises. "In some locations, students have to brave the elements to wait for the bus to arrive."

Riders can access the site at broncotransit.com/mobile or by clicking the "Mobile GPS" link from the Bronco Transit homepage. Once on the mobile site, riders can view the schedule as well as access the GPS site to see the exact location of the bus they're awaiting.

"This is a very easy-to-use system and can be accessed through any device with Internet connectivity," Knutson said. "Knowing where the bus is located will ensure that they can make better decisions regarding transportation. Also, students will not have to wait outside in the heat or cold for a bus to arrive."

Anyone with a valid Bronco identification card can ride the Bronco Transit bus system for free. Free transit rides include a shuttle service for football and basketball games, the Oakland Campus route that services the area near the College of Health and Human Services and also stops at Stadium Drive Apartments, as well as a route to the College of Aviation in Battle Creek, Mich.

Those with a valid Bronco ID card also can hitch a free ride on several community routes operated by Metro Transit including destinations in Kalamazoo, Portage and Parchment and the townships of Comstock, Cooper, Kalamazoo, Texas and Oshtemo.
