West Virginia University’s Facilities and Services department is busy with many projects, including building a new transportation center.
Construction of the Mountaineer Station, the new center located by the WVU Health Sciences Personal Rapid Transit station, is underway. The completed station will have a parking garage, new office space for WVU Parking Office employees, bike racks and will be a bus stop for the Mountain Line public transit.
Finishing touches are also being put on the new honors residence hall – recently named Honors Hall – and the WVU Child Learning Center. Both are expected to be completed by July 1.
“These three new buildings will help WVU remain competitive by providing services needed by faculty, staff and students,” said Joe Fisher, associate vice president for facilities and services.
Several renovations are also in progress across campus.
A $3.5 million transformation is taking place in Summit Hall’s dining area. The kitchen and serving area are being redesigned. The new dining area will serve residents from both Summit Hall and the new Honors Hall in the fall. The project is expected to be finished by Aug.1.
Also, a new heating and cooling system is being installed on the basement level of the Engineering Science Building on WVU’s Evansdale Campus.
Various roof, paving and classroom projects are also taking place around campus. Many classrooms are being upgraded to include new projectors, podiums and computers.
