WTS honors Valley Metro Executive Director

Dave Boggs was named the 2010 Womens’ Transportation Seminar Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter Member of the Year at the annual awards and scholarship ceremony. For more than nine years, Boggs has supported the chapter and participated in the mentorship program.

Valley Metro RPTA executive director, Dave Boggs, received the 2010 Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter Member of the Year at the annual awards and scholarship ceremony held last week at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Boggs has been supportive of the WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter for more than nine years participating in the mentorship program and encouraging active participation at all levels in the association.

The event featured Master of Ceremonies Doug Nintzel, media relations director for Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and Keynote Speaker Jennifer Toth, director of planning for ADOT. There were more than 150 transportation colleagues from both public and private organizations that attended the formal event. 

In addition to the awards, WTS awarded four scholarships to women who are currently studying in the transportation field and were viewed as having the ability to make a significant contribution to the local transportation industry. Katie Povee, administration assistant, Valley Metro, received a scholarship award and is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Public Administration.

Founded in 1977, WTS is an international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation. Boasting roughly 4,100 members — both men and women — WTS is helping women find opportunity and recognition in the transportation industry.

The WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter was founded in 1985 and is dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages the advancement of women in the transportation industry. There are 120 individuals that support the local chapter and vast range of corporate sponsorship to support local events.
