West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown is unveiling a new alternative transportation program this week called WE GO!

Throughout the week, WVU’s Department of Transportation and Parking will promote alternative forms of transportation, including riding the bus, using Morgantown’s peoplemover system, walking, carpooling and vanpooling.

“Each day we will showcase a particular mode of transportation and what we at the university can do to help make that service more accessible to commuters,” said Hugh Kierig, director of transportation and parking. There will also be giveaways and prizes ranging from gift certificates to a Nintendo Wii or Apple iPod.

Kierig said WE GO! is a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing traffic congestion and parking demand on campus and helping students and employees save on fuel costs. Services include free use of Mountain Line buses and the peoplemover system, an online carpooling site that matches employees who commute to campus and an employee vanpool program for long-distance commuters. A car sharing program for students and employees to rent cars on a short-term basis will be implemented at the start of the spring semester.
