NABI unveils new 60-foot hybrid BRT vehicle
Articulated bus offers 5 doors, streamlined design and versatility.
North American Bus Industries (NABI) unveiled its new 60-foot hybrid BRT vehicle at the APTA Expo in Dallas. The articulated vehicle has a rail-like appearance, with sleek body styling and five doors, including two on the left side for median platform boarding or left-side boarding on single-lane dedicated busways.
The new vehicle, which can seat up to 50 passengers, can be used for BRT or regular revenue service, said Andy Racz, president of NABI. “Also, it can be ordered with conventional diesel or the CNG package,” he said.
Racz said the hybrid version of the BRT vehicle will cost approximately $800,000. A three-door CNG version of the vehicle, like the 30 units recently delivered to Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), cost about $640,000 each.
Those vehicles will be used in Metro’s Orange Line, the nation’s first dedicated BRT corridor. The 14-mile line runs across the San Fernando Valley, north of downtown Los Angeles, and open for revenue service later this year.
