Benefits of the AT&T, Boldyn Networks Partnership

Transport connectivity benefits the community by delivering connectivity-driven enhancements to residents and businesses across the Bay Area, according to Christos Karmis, CEO of Boldyn Networks’ U.S. business.

“The SFMTA network we’ve deployed helps improve the passenger experience, enables operational efficiencies, and boosts public safety,” Karmis said. “The SFMTA network also extends our existing high-density fiber footprint in the region, delivering the backbone required to improve 5G wireless connectivity, data center access, and enable connected buildings with indoor 5G coverage.”

Karmis also explained how this partnership developed.

“Our expertise in delivering 5G connectivity for some of the world’s largest and most complex transit systems in the U.S. and globally, coupled with BART’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience through their digital transformation initiatives, made us ideal partners to improve broadband connectivity for riders of the Central Subway system,” he added.

Boldyn Networks' Past Partnerships

Boldyn Networks has partnered with transit agencies in the past to bring connectivity to some of the biggest subway systems in the world, including the SFMTA and BART in the Bay Area, Sound Transit in Seattle, the MTA in New York City, TfL in London, UK, and more.

Highlights from past partnerships include:

  • In 2020, Boldyn Networks deployed its wireless connectivity infrastructure for Seattle’s Sound Transit multi-phase light rail system as part of the largest transit expansion project in the country.

  • On the East Coast, Boldyn deployed its cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity across New York City’s underground metro system, including a dedicated 4.9 GHz public safety band licensed to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

  • Boldyn Networks also transformed London's Underground “Tube” when it partnered with Transit for London (TfL) to bring 4G and 5G wireless connectivity to the city's passengers.

  • In Hong Kong, Boldyn Networks brought connectivity to the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system, including connectivity for autonomous trains on the South Island Line.

Boldyn Networks is deploying connectivity across the BART system, including its “Fleet of the Future” trains.

“We look forward to sharing more on upcoming projects as we continue to expand our connected transport portfolio,” Karmis said.
