UITP, the International Association of Public Transport, is predicting record turnout for its biennial World Congress and Mobility and City Transport Exhibition, to be held May 20 to 25 at Earls Court in London. This is the first time the UITP event will be held in London. The 54th UITP World Congress and companion expo is expected to draw 10,000 visitors, even more than the record established in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1997. The last congress was held in Toronto, Canada—the first time ever in North America—and drew 6,000 visitors from 57 countries. The four-day event has a full program of plenary and parallel sessions, technical visits and social events in the evening. All delegates have free entry to the exhibition. Transport for London, the newly created body responsible for integrated transport for the British capital, is co-hosting the event. The first Mayor of London in the recently reconstituted local government, Ken Livingstone, will address the opening ceremony.
