Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works partners with Velocia, a mobility rewards platform to help solve Miami's growing traffic problem
Now commuters in Miami-Dade County can get rewarded for taking public transit, car-sharing, bike and scooter-sharing, carpooling and even walking, thanks to a new public-private partnership with Velocia, a mobility app that rewards multimodal transit use in cities.
Velocia's rewards platform encourages users to adopt a variety of transportation options available in their city by providing rewards every time they connect or use a partner mobility service on the platform, including Miami-Dade public transit. The rewards are earned in the form of “VELOS” which can then be redeemed within the Velocia mobility ecosystem, providing users with immediate discounts on available transportation services.

In South Florida, Velocia’s growing list of partners on the platform include; Miami-Dade Metrobus and Metrorail, Bolt e-scooters, Citi Bike bike sharing, Getaround peer-to-peer (P2P) car-sharing, and SwiftSeat P2P Carpooling. Dashee Scooters will soon be joining the Velocia platform. Users can redeem their VELOS for discounts in all of the partner apps as well as for Lyft and Uber ride-sharing credits.
Since Velocia’s soft launch in August 2019 and a target of 2000 beta users, the user base has increased to over 5,000 by friend referrals and word-of-mouth alone. And the Velocia app is getting use; during the past three months, over 100,000 Metrorail rides and 35,000 Metrobus rides have been rewarded through the Velocia platform.
