The American Bus Association (ABA) last week filed comments with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on the federal agency’s charter bus rule violations.
Federally funded transit agencies taking business away from private operators could eventually lead to a reduction in intercity bus service in areas where transit is not available, according to the ABA.
Currently, the Federal Transit Act forbids a recipient of FTA funding from providing intercity charter bus transportation if it prevents a private operator from providing the same service. But charter bus rule violations continue to be one of the ABA’s top concerns.
The ABA has asked the FTA to further restrict charter service opportunities available to transit agencies and to be more proactive in enforcing charter bus rule infractions.
