The American Bus Association (ABA) recently released a guide for consumers looking for motorcoach transportation, to educate them how to hire a safe, quality motorcoach operator. The guide, "How to Hire a Safe, Quality Operator Guide", along with marketing and communications materials for ABA members, is part of a larger, association effort being unveiled by the ABA this month. "The motorcoach industry is the safest form of commercial transportation--something our members take extremely seriously," says Peter J. Pantuso, ABA president and CEO. But unlike quality companies, who comply with all the federal, state and local operating regulations, there are some operators who sometimes skirt safety regulations and customer care or service in favor of lower prices. Some of the safety items in the guide suggest: Inquiring about the operator's federal operating authority, a valid insurance certificate, a valid commercial driver's license and inspections, items all operators need to have. Look for companies that are reliable. Are they professional over the phone? Do they follow up on your inquiries in a prompt and timely manner? For ABA and its members, the most important aspect of the guide is to help consumers understand that the lowest price doesn't always mean the best deal.
