Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has teamed up with Masabi to launch electronic ticket and pass validation for its riders.

Riders will be able to purchase tickets and passes through the regional EZfare app, powered by Masabi’s Justride platform, as well as within Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) and mobility apps such as Transit, Uber, and Moovit.

As part of the effort, Masabi will deploy 250 Justride Validator (JRVs) units across the agency’s fleet, allowing riders to scan their mobile passes conveniently and safely. The JRVs are designed to support all major ticketing formats, including paper and mobile barcodes, smartcards (NFC), and cEMV.

METRO RTA is the second in the EZfare regional network to deploy Masabi’s JRVs. In December 2020, Greater Dayton RTA announced the installation of the JRV units onboard its fleet of buses. Both agencies are members of NEORide, a council of governments comprising 13 transit systems, who teamed up with Masabi in 2019 to launch the EZfare app.
