California’s GCTD Taps Clean Energy for Hydrogen Fueling Station

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was awarded a contract to design and build a new hydrogen fueling station for Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD), which serves multiple cities in Ventura County, California.

The contract includes a five-year maintenance agreement for a private station that will initially fuel five fuel cell buses, with plans to eventually transition a fleet of approximately 70 vehicles to zero emissions by 2040.

The Federal Transit Administration awarded GCTD $12.1 million to construct a new hydrogen station and to purchase hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses.

The new hydrogen station is expected to be completed in 2027 and will be located at GCTD’s Oxnard facility.

Under the renewed agreement, Transdev will continue managing the city’s BMT Zip fixed-route and paratransit services, which together operate 25 vehicles and employ 50 transit professionals through a local subsidiary.

The renewed contract includes a three-year base term, with two optional one-year extensions, ensuring long-term stability and continuity for Beaumont’s transit riders.

Through its Customer Care Program, Transdev will continue providing the city with up to 80 hours of value-added support annually — covering planning, safety, maintenance, and customer service initiatives — to ensure BMT Zip continues to deliver high-quality, passenger-focused service.

As part of the contract, General Manager Claudia San Miguel will continue to oversee all day-to-day management duties, supported by Transdev’s regional and corporate transit management teams.

The contract is valued at approximately $75 million CAD and includes 100 equivalent units, which have been added to New Flyer’s Q2 backlog, according to New Flyer officials.

This purchase marks Ottawa’s fourth order of New Flyer buses in the past two years, and it recently invested in New Flyer battery-electric 40-foot heavy-duty buses.

Systrans to Launch Real-Time Tracking for Indiana’s Citilink

Fort Wayne, Indiana, Citilink riders can now track their buses in real time, thanks to a new technology partnership with Systrans.

The system, powered by Systrans’ NAVINEO CAD/AVL technology, lets riders see precisely where their bus is and when it will arrive in the Transit app. This feature makes trip planning easier and helps riders stay warm and comfortable while waiting, no matter the weather, officials with Citilink said.

The new system enhances both the rider and driver experience. Automated announcements now provide clear, timely information about stops and transfers, allowing drivers to focus on safe operation while helping passengers navigate their routes with confidence.

Operations staff also benefit from a more efficient dispatch process, drivers can log in independently, and supervisors can communicate directly with passengers through upcoming features like automated detour notifications and custom announcements.
