Bombardier Inc. was awarded a $46 million contract by the city of Houston to expand the automated peoplemover system (APM) at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Under the contract, Bombardier will design and supply all of the electrical and mechanical systems for the 656-yard extension, including 10 additional CX-100 vehicles. Bombardier, which currently supplies and operates the existing Houston system, is scheduled to begin delivery of vehicles in mid-2003. The Bombardier facility in Pittsburgh will supply the fully automated vehicles, automatic train control and power distribution systems, guideway switches and station equipment, and equip a new maintenance and storage facility. The extension will connect the present APM system, currently linking terminals B and C of the airport, to the international terminal complex under construction at the airport. Bombardier has designed and installed peoplemovers for airports around the world, including Changi International Airport in Singapore, Frankfurt’s International Airport and Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome.
