The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) entered into a contract with Gillig Corp. for the purchase of 180 buses over a five-year period. CATS wil receive 22 high-floor 40-foot suburban buses and 14 low-floor transit buses during the first year of the contract. The next four years includes options to buy additional 65 high-floor 40-foot buses, 54 low-floor 40-foot buses and 25 low-floor 30-foot buses. Delivery of the first buses, to increase local and express services for CATS, is slated for late 2002 and early 2003.
