Watergate, polyester pant suits and "The Sting"…much has changed since the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (Metro) began operating as greater Cincinnati’s public transit system in 1973.
Metro is inviting the community to celebrate its 40th anniversary on Aug. 15. The event includes 1973 music from WGRR-FM, prizes, special appearances from Metro’s community partners and a few surprises. An historic bus from the 1960s will be on display, along with one of Metro’s newest Metro*Plus buses that will go into service on Aug. 19.
“We’re celebrating 40 years of connecting people and places, supporting economic development and improving the quality of life in Greater Cincinnati,” said Metro’s CEO/GM Terry Garcia Crews. “We want to thank our community for supporting Metro for the past four decades.”
As Metro celebrates its history, it is adding a new limited-stop service.
“Metro is changing to meet the needs of the community,” Garcia Crews added. “We are proud of what we have done in the past 40 years, and we’re eager to go forward to provide even better service to the community in the future.”
