D.C. Metro unveils farecard Website enhancements

Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro) SmarTrip card users can now access their information at an enhanced Website and through Web-enabled mobile devices as part of a number of upgrades that are being made to SmarTrip this year.

Customers with a SmarTrip account can view their card balance and usage history dating back to January 2010. In addition, they can add multiple cards to their account, report a lost or stolen card, request a replacement card or transfer the balance to another registered card.

The enhanced Website can be reached by visiting Metro’s homepage, clicking on the SmarTrip icon at the bottom of the page and selecting “Managing Your SmarTrip Account.”

Customers who have established a SmarTrip account can visit smartrip.wmata.com/mobile on either an iPhone or BlackBerry and follow the instructions to view their SmarTrip balance and recent transactions for all cards that are associated with their account.

In April, Metro’s board of directors approved amendments to revise Metro’s Privacy Policy to allow online access to SmarTrip information by the card’s registered owner. In order for customers to access their SmarTrip information online, card holders will need to visit the SmarTrip Website and create an account.

Metro will collect the name, address, date of birth, phone number and e-mail address associated with the SmarTrip card holder. The user then will be required to establish a user name, password, responses to three security questions and a digital signature to confirm that he or she is the owner of the card.
