The Central New York Regional Transportation Authority (CNYRTA) ordered 12 Orion VII clean diesel buses from Daimler Buses North America. The new buses will be delivered in late fall for service in Utica, N.Y.

This marks the third consecutive order placed by CNYTRA. In 2009, 18 Orion VII compressed natural gas (CNG) buses were delivered to Syracuse, N.Y.

"CNYRTA prides itself on providing the citizens of Utica top-notch public transportation with low environmental impact and Orion delivers," stated Patrick Scully, chief commercial officer for Daimler Buses North America. "In addition to that, they also proudly support the local New York economy and its workers."

Built from 304 grade stainless steel framework, the Orion VII carries on the tradition of past Orion platforms by delivering durability, reliability and innovation. An EPA 2010 compliant, 280 horsepower Cummins ISL clean-diesel engine powers the bus backed by a Voith DIWA transmission.

The Diesel Particulate Filter and Selective Catalytic Reduction work hand-in-hand to form a complete emissions system that lowers smog-causing particulates. An optional EMP electric fan cooling system was also installed.

Additionally, the Orion VII redesigned electrical system compliments the G3 Multiplex system and Twin Vision Smart Series destination signs.
