Dallas paratransit hits snags on opening day

DALLAS — On its opening day, Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) revamped paratransit service experienced delays and jammed phone lines. The problems were the result of a new and different vehicle fleet, new reservationists and dispatchers, and general confusion, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The service’s on-time performance dropped to the 60% range on Oct. 1 before rebounding later in the day. In January, DART’s board voted to switch the paratransit contract to MV Transportation from Veolia Transportation, because the seven-year, $186 million deal was $12 million less than Veolia’s bid.
