NJ TRANSIT’s mobile app, an expanded version of the popular MyTix program, is now available for all bus, rail and light rail customers, offering many amenities, including DepartureVision.

“Time and again we have heard from our customers that they love the ease and convenience that mobile apps provide,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim. “This app opens up a whole new world to our NJ TRANSIT customers; now access to NJ TRANSIT travel information has never been easier.’’

NJ TRANSIT’s MyTix will now offer monthly passes for light rail travel and offer all the agency’s customers the option to pay with PayPal, allowing NJ TRANSIT customers to transfer payments electronically. This service makes the transactions between NJ TRANSIT and its customers convenient and easy.

The NJ TRANSIT mobile app is available for free download on any Web-enabled iOS or Android device, via the App Store or Google Play. With this new mobile app, customers can purchase monthly bus, light rail or rail passes by first installing the app and then creating an account, which will securely save customers’ profile information and their future purchase history. Monthly passes self-activate at midnight on the first day of the calendar month for which they are valid and remain active throughout the entire month. Customers then simply display the monthly pass on their mobile device to the bus operator, fare inspector or train crew member.

The mobile app is an expansion of the MyTix program, which was launched in April 2013 as a pilot program for rail customers on the Pascack Valley Line, as well as between Penn Station New York and the Meadowlands Rail Station for special events, to test the functionality of the app and determine the feasibility of expanding it to other rail lines.

Many improvements made to the agency’s mobile app were the direct result of valuable feedback from customers using the app during the gradual rollout. Since its 2013 introduction, MyTix has become popular among NJ TRANSIT customers, as evidenced on Customer Satisfaction Surveys.

On these surveys, “Payment Options’’ received the highest scores from customers, most recently receiving a 7.3 on a 0 to 10 point scale. This represents the highest score at the system level among 42 service attributes. To date, customers have used the MyTix app to establish more than 600,000 accounts and have purchased more than eight million tickets.
