Fla.’s Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s (JTA) board approved moving forward to negotiate a public-private partnership (P3) with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to design, build, operate and maintain a CNG fueling facility at its Myrtle Avenue campus.

Pending successful negotiations, Clean Energy will build the fueling infrastructure, modify maintenance buildings, design and construct the bus and employee parking areas and demolish the JTA Administration Building. They will also construct a publicly accessible CNG station at JTA’s Myrtle Avenue site.

As part of the proposal, JTA will purchase a guaranteed minimum quantity of CNG fuel over 15 years.

JTA plans to transition 100 buses from diesel to CNG over the next five years, including 40 buses that will serve the First Coast Flyer, JTA’s bus rapid transit program.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by October of 2015. Completion of the public access station is anticipated for early 2016. JTA plans to put 20 CNG buses in service by the end of 2015.
