The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued a brochure titled "Public Transportation and School Buses" that clarifies the role that transit agencies can play in providing school transportation. The brochure was issued in conjuction with a Dear Colleague letter from FTA Administrator Jenna Dorn. In the letter, Dorn says "it's important to understand the circumstances under which a public agency is permitted to transport students to school and school activities." The National School Transportation Association, which represents private school bus companies across North America, worked with the FTA to develop the brochure. Basically, the brochure answers questions about the use of transit buses for tripper service and for charter service for schools.
