HOUSTON — Despite estimates that doing so could save millions of dollars, Houston Metro's board decided to not delegate the entirety of the agency's services for paratransit riders to a private vendor, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Metro’s board approved 66-month contracts with two companies to provide drivers — and in some cases, vehicles — to transport disabled and elderly riders. First Transit will provide drivers for Metro-owned vans, while Greater Houston Transportation Corp., the parent company of Yellow Cab, will provide taxi service, including minivans capable of transporting people who use wheelchairs.
