ITS America to unveil plan for intelligent transportation needs
Initiatives in report could change the face of transportation nationwide.
The Intelligent Transportation Society of America, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation, will soon release a document designed to highlight the country's intelligent transportation needs for the next 10 years. The document, titled "National Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Plan: A Ten-Year Vision," will be officially unveiled during the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board, Jan. 14 in Washington, D.C. The plan builds upon the accomplishments of the past 10 years and outlines a 10-year agenda of major public and private initiatives. The program plan, developed with input from transportation officials, establishes goals that reflect future opportunities and challenges and describes necessary actions to further develop and deploy ITS. It encourages adoption of ITS technologies where those technologies have a clear promise of enhancing safety and security, reducing congestion and delay, saving time and money and improving the environment.
