Las Vegas launches transit ad blitz
RTC spends $300,000 on ads highlighting a proposed rapid transit line.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) launched a $300,000 advertising campaign focusing on its proposed rapid transit system to run from Henderson to North Las Vegas.
The RTC, which favors a system involving light rail or BRT, said its media campaign is solely for informational purposes. Opponents allege that the ads are intended to persuade people to the RTC’s side, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The campaign, which began in July and runs to November, includes a Website, newspaper ads, television and radio commercials, billboards and segments on the county's public access channel.
The campaign represents about one-fourth of the agency’s annual advertising budget. The RTC board of directors is scheduled to vote Nov. 10 on whether to go ahead with the rapid transit system.
