The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
served 14 million passengers during July – a 13.2 percent jump compared to July
2007.
Overall, MARTA improved its July ridership numbers across
the board, including a 12.9 percent increase in rail, a 13.6 percent increase
in bus and an 18.2 percent increase in paratransit services.
Additionally, MARTA announced the beginning of its “Adopt-A-MARTA
Bus Stop Program” in DeKalb County that will enable
residents and community organizations the opportunity to take ownership of keeping
the local bus stops free and clear of litter and looking nice.
Participants can sign up through the County’s Keep DeKalb
Beautiful program, which will also provide supplies, to commit to organizing
cleanup campaigns or beautification projects at least once a month or as needed
to maintain the condition of their stop.
