MV Transportation has begun operation of the Access-A-Ride paratransit services in Staten Island, N.Y., for the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).

Under the terms of the 10-year, $422 million contract, MV will manage and operate the paratransit services, beginning with 11 vehicles on eight routes. MV set up a team in less than 30 days from contract signing and transitioned into the service.

The company has operated paratransit services with the MTA since 2001 and currently has a local office in Brooklyn. The initial contract award includes a doubling of the vehicles used to provide service – from 150 to 300.

In Brooklyn, MV manages 310 daily routes with 251 vehicles, and employs more than 450 transit professionals. The contract will increase to 300 vehicles by the end of October.
