STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Following a report by Advance in which Access-A-Ride paratransit customers on Staten Island criticized the service for being frequently unreliable, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is standing by its paratransit service and the successful cost-cutting policies that have been put in place.
Addressing complaints brought up by several customers and Marybeth Melendez, the former democratic hopeful for State Assembly who uses the service regularly, an MTA spokesman said complaints against Staten Island car services, which address 30% of Staten Island intra-borough trips, have remained relatively flat.
