NEW YORK — The New York Post reports that a new report by the New York Economic Development Corp. (NYCEDC) finds that subway and bus ridership is down, while usage of TNCs, including Lyft and Uber, is up.
Overall, subway and bus ridership dropped by 5.6% in March 2018, compared to the previous, which is the biggest year-over-year drop since December 2017, according to the NYCEDC report.
Subway ridership decline was part of an overall drop in mass transit, with bus ridership down 7.6% and Metro North and LIRR ridership down about 4%.
“While there are many factors that can be attributed to the decline in mass-transit ridership, our research indicates that app-based ride-hailing services [like Uber and Lyft] are transforming how New Yorkers are commuting to their destinations,” a NYCEDC spokeswoman told The Post.
