NextBus Inc., a California-based subsidiary of WebTech Wireless Inc. , was awarded a $1.65 million Real Time Passenger Information System contract by Triad Transit Systems, a group of North Carolina-based fleets.
NextBus® GPS Automatic Vehicle Locator units will be deployed on 164 buses across 72 routes within the Triad Transit Systems. As part of the five-year contract, the company will receive approximately $770,000 in revenue in the first year, which includes hardware, setup and service, and approximately $221,000, primarily as service revenue, for each of the remaining four years. The contract has an additional one-year option to extend services.
Under the contract, NextBus will use its patented technology to process data obtained from buses in the Triad Transit Systems to provide real-time, predictive, up-to-the minute information arrival times to users, not just the posted schedule times. Bus arrival information will be available to passengers through a series of 39 newly installed LED signs along the routes, a phone- and website-based traveller information service, the nextbus.com website, as well as cellular and smartphone text messaging.
