SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Omnitrans announced that it will remove natural gas tanks from its plant in San Bernardino as early as next year as it transitions to use a pipeline, Fontanta Herald News reported.
For several years, environmental groups and some nearby residents had been concerned about the potential risks of the gas tanks, which are located right across from a local community center and park, the report said.
According to Wendy Williams, a spokesperson for Omnitrans, the Board of Directors took action in June to approve the design and construction of a CNG fueling system utilizing pipeline, which will eliminate the need for on-site LNG storage used in the current system, according to the Fontana Herald News.
Ericka Flores, a community organizer at Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, said she acknowledged that the facility has met all of its legal safety requirements, but that the group remained concerned about the possibility of an accident, the report said.
